Wild Cheetah Girl of the Month: December

    Sandi Cobia

Sandi is always an upbeat addition to Wild Cheetah Girlz on Wednesdays and frequently runs local 5ks with her husband. Her favorite 5ks so far are: The Ho Ho Hustle, The Turkey Trot, The Last Mile, Bridge to Bridge, The Seafood Festival and the UWF Argonaut 5K.

She was born in North Carolina and raised in a town outside of Memphis, Tennessee. When she was 16, she moved to Gulf Breeze, Florida and has remained in this area ever since. She married Hank Cobia 9 years ago and has 2 stepchildren---ages 16 and 22.

She got her Bachelor's Degree in psychology at UWF in 2000 and her Masters there in 2002. She worked as a personal fitness trainer and makeup artist for 2 years. Then she started working at Lakeview and worked there for 16 years while continuing her work as a makeup artist for Clinique for 10 of those years. Then she worked for the Friary for 5 years. She is a licensed Mental Health Counselor and has worked as a counselor for the last 20 years. She now owns her own private counseling business.

She started running in earnest about 3 years ago when a friend encouraged her to join a 5k Running Clinic at Running Wild. She loved it and enrolled in another clinic. Her coaches were: Lari, Mona, Stephanie, and Lucas. She absolutely loved the coaches and remembers a lot from each one. About the same time, Sandi convinced her husband Hank to run with her on Saturday Mornings and they continue their Saturday Morning Runs to this day. She feels that being a member of the Wild Cheetah Girlz' Running Group and Book Club is a great source for socializing with "like-minded women." Her goals for running are "just to continue doing it, being willing to do challenging things---including speed and hill repeats." She "believes that movement is medicine and hopes to continue running for the rest of her life."
