Wild Cheetah Girl Of The Month: October

    Allison Greenhut

Allison Greenhut supports runners and running: she is always at the weekly meeting of Wild Cheetahs surrounded by a group of women and is an enthusiastic volunteer at packet pickups and many local races. She grew up in Portsmouth and Lexington, Virginia. She went to college at UNC (Ashville) where she got a B.A. in psychology. While there, she met the "love of her life," Brad. Allison and Brad moved to Raleigh, N.C. and stayed in that area for 17years. They have one child, Alex. They moved to this area in 2017 and settled in Gulf Breeze.

Though Allison ended up working for the home-building industry, she used her psychology degree in her free time to help women and children over the years. First, she worked mentoring abused women. Later, she worked with new mothers with difficulties teaching them how to cope with new babies and how to care for them physically. Allison then worked with children in kindergarten through third grade teaching them how to recognize inappropriate behavior in other children and adults and teaching them tools to respond to these inappropriate behaviors.

She started running after college and her running reached a peak in 2011 when she trained for and completed a half marathon. After that, she started training with increased intensity for another half marathon and got sesamoiditis in both feet. Since then, she runs for fun and exercise. Allison loves running with a group. She ran with a great group of friends in North Carolina. Shortly after she moved to this area, she joined the Phat Girlz. She calls it the best thing she ever did for herself. She lived for Wednesday Morning, then and now. In the summer, when The Wild Cheetah Group isn't operating, she runs with a group in Gulf Breeze. Her running goal for this year is a modest one: she wants to run more mileage than she did last year----"even if it is just an extra 10 miles."
